Be At Peace
You're breath came and went,
with a heave and rattle,
before it silently slipped away,
you're lungs finally relaxed,
and your heart at rest.
I checked for your pulse,
your heart and breath,
I listened and prayed,
already knowing that you had gone away,
yes, you had finally gone away,
at peace with all of your days.
Phone calls, tears, a regret or two,
we went about your wishes,
but I took a few moments,
to sit by your side,
warming your warmth-less hands,
touching your cool cheek,
stroking back your hair,
placing a single kiss on your brow,
yes, I had a few regrets,
but I knew things were better for you now.
